Barts were hit with a string of drop-outs and playing ICSM and GKT with a mix of 1st and 2nd teamers, we were up against it, but prepared to fight fire with fire. After the long and arduous trip down to Heathrow, the game against ICSM started rapidly (even with G playing), and BL were teasing to draw first blood with some divine hockey. In truth, I don’t really remember much of the match itself. Highlights include Arjan weaving his way, like the river Ganges, all over the midfield beating ICSM players more often than he breaks bones (and hearts </3) as well as James C leaving his legs wider than a woman in labour. In the end, against a strong side with 15/16 players, an exhausted BL fought with tenacity to the very end losing the game 5/6-1. Azam adding to his tally, cementing his position as top goalscorer.
Our next game was against GKT. BL began reasonably, holding off attacks and sending some voluptuous counters down the right side of the pitch. Some impressive goals from King’s put BL on the back foot, with some of BLs finest defenders resorting to various peculiar tactics to bewilder the enemy. As it turned out, passing the ball precisely to their forwards is not the standard way of playing hockey. Despite these setbacks, James S and Gurpreet shined at LB and RB respectively stepping leagues above what they’re used to on a typical Wednesday afternoon. In the end the team lost, with Azam putting one past GKT for his goal to game ratio.
MoM: James S for some quality defending
DoD: not sure? Probably Nick “mingy tips” Soper
