1st XI UH Tournament day 2 – The Good the Bad and the P Flick

Teamsheet: James C, Gary, Adam, Gurpreet, Krish, Jonny H, Jamie P, Nick S, Dom, Chris M, Chand and late appearances from Harry M, Anuj and Azam

In our final attempt to get some points in the competition, we were up against St Georges. This was the last hockey of the year and we were looking to go out with a bang. Regrettably we lost Adam to his dissertation, nonetheless Anuj, Harry M and Azam all stepped up to the task. BL started even stronger than usual, showing some of that champion spirit that won us the league this year and in a moment of brilliance, as a result of some more stickwork from Dom/Chand the mighty BL was awarded a penalty stroke. In Southgate HC, the local homeboi Azam “Beyoncé topknot” Sheikh was given the nod for the big job, however many things, including incredibly variable and difficult weather conditions, low flying birds, streakers in the crowd and a horn going off on the street all contributed to ball ending up in a less than ideal location. It’s imperative to remember that before this point, the player had had an excellent game and was possibly not at fault here either. “Carpe diem”. It was not to be our day. Georges put a few past the men on the posts and unfortunately we suffered another defeat. The burn of this tournament will last the summer till next season, where we will show no mercy. The glorious BL Mens team will return!
