A nervous 2nd XI team sat in changing room 1 at Lee Valley. Their debut match was only moments away. A dead pan Madonna warned his anxious players about the difficulties that lay ahead, playing RUMS 4th XI. Barts and the London started strong, keeping their opponents defence on their tippy toes.

One shot, two shot, three shot and then a crossbar. Their solid GK beckoned at BL to produce something more worthy. Meanwhile, Jeeves, working at his maximum capability was brutally assaulted by a cack handed RUMS midfielder.

Taking a hard fall to the ground but dragged himself to his feet once more without a single complaint. Tensions were high, and then, almost like he'd been flicking p balls since a foetus, David flew one pass GK. The crowd roared and shouted for more. BL like to please and without hesitancy placed a skilled fresher, Alex in the forward position. Alex seemed lost for a while, not getting much of a touch. Then, a stroke of genius drew him to the backpost where he reversed the ball past the keeper with his first touch of game hockey this year. RUMS looked broken and disjointed. Conversely BL were drunk on their success but remained level headed as half time arrived. The second half remained fairly uneventful until another strong fresher, Conor, performed his glorious duty for BL men's and smashed a ball from the top of the D to top left corner. RUMS were bewildered. Overheard were the voices of the opponents muttering 'someone's got a good fresher intake this year'. The game ended 3-0, a phenomenal start to the year, the potential for the 2nd XI is huge. Madonna shouted from the sidelines
