2nd XI vs LSE
Barts 2s went into our match against LSE with mixed emotions. We had every right to be confident as we were proudly sat at the top of the league, but we were quietly aware that LSE were coming off the back of a 9-0 win. Everything would have to go in our favour if we were to come out as the victors and for a brief moment before the game it seemed as if that would be the case. James made the team aware that LSE were on something called a 'reading week', after the team came to terms with this reading week concept we realised this could only benefit us as LSE would have to field a weaker team. However our luck started to fade as LSE made their way on to the pitch in identical shirts to ours and Chand made the stupid decision that we should wear bibs despite being the home team. These bibs would create so much drag that none of our players would be able to reach top speed, from here on out our failure was inevitable.
Right from the first moment LSE pressed high and put huge amounts of pressure on our defence, it felt as though LSE could have been playing with 15 men on the pitch, so it came as quite the surprise when we took the time to count and realised they were only able to field 10. There was only one man who could stop the barrage of attacks into our D, that man was James Stevens who was rightfully awarded man of the match for his efforts. Unfortunately not even James could stop LSEs short corner from plunging into the back of the net in the dying moment of the first half. No one was phased though as we knew we could pull it back, until we heard LSE utter the words, 'alright lads, park the bus'.
As the second half commenced the 2s were a team revitalised and we played the kind of Fast Intense Sexy Hockey (brought to you by FISH hair products) that Roger had discussed in training. At one point Harry was so concentrated on the game that he confused his own pipe for his stick, using it to great effect to intercept a powerful pass from LSE's winger. Following this he had to substitute himself off and was awarded D.O.D. No matter our quality in the second half it was impossible to break through LSE's 7-1-1 formation and the match ended in a frustrating 1-0 loss.
