1st XI vs RVC 1's

Our first LUSL match of the season – an opportunity to get a mixed 1s and 2s squad out in an attempt to bridge the gap between the two sides. RVC are also in the same league as our 1s so this game would be a good pointer to what the quality of their outfit will be for future games this season. This game also saw the return of el Presidente Nick’s fabled bandana – DoD I hear you scream?

We started off strong with an onslaught on their final third, but we were kept back by some resilient defence until we got our first goal from an unlikely (?) source – a poised touch from Chand saw us go 1-0 up. The opposition grabbed a goal back against the general run of the game, doing a disservice to our defence who had been solid from the first minute.

Lack of discipline got the better of some of us again, with some…questionable tackles going in, resulting in cards being dealt left, right and centre. Another DoD on the horizon for Eliot despite his misguided confusion as to why he had been dealt a green and a yellow card. At one point, we only had 9 players on the pitch as Gurpreet had come to join Eliot in the dugout.

However, we pushed on and got our rewards for some lovely play with a rare goal from Jonny, putting us ahead once again. And that is how it stayed. 2-1 seemed like a flattering score line for the opposition but a win is a win nonetheless. An encouraging performance from all, especially those who had made the jump from the 2s who contributed excellently. MoM went to Kaushik for his consistent performance yet again and Luke for the sake of a congratulatory pint at Tables.

Encouraging stuff.

Final Score: 2-1 (W)

Man of the match: Kaushik Sadanand

Dod: Eliot Siggs
